Whether you specifically scouted out a home with an Invisible Fence® Brand system already installed, or you're a loyal Invisible Fence® owner moving your pack to a new property, you already know the incredible freedom and peace of mind this system provides.
However, even though the wire is already in the ground, a new home means a fresh start for your pet. Before you let your dog out to run, there are a few critical steps to transition your system, and your pet, safely to your new yard.
Are You a Returning Invisible Fence® Owner?
If you used an Invisible Fence® system at your previous home, you're already ahead of the curve. However, you can't just plug in your old transmitter and let your dog out. Here is what you need to do:
- Bring Your Gear: Keep your existing Computer Collar® Receivers and Power Cap® batteries.
- Update Your Account: Contact your local dealer to transfer your warranty, update your address, and register your new property.
- Assess Your New Property: Every yard is shaped differently. Your collar will need new, programmed settings and there will be new terrain and areas to consider.
Step 1: Schedule a Professional System Check
Even if the previous homeowner assured you the system was working perfectly, yards change. Landscaping, aeration, patio construction, or even tunneling pests can cause silent wire breaks under the soil (though rare).
Before relying on the boundary, an Invisible Fence Brand® certified technician needs to locate and activate the Control Panel, scan the property for wire breaks or signal gaps, and map out the exact layout so you know exactly where the boundary lines run.
Step 2: Configure the Collars for Your Pets
Invisible Fence® systems are not one-size-fits-all. The Computer Collar® Receiver must be precisely calibrated to the specific dog wearing it.
If you brought your legacy collars, a technician will need to sync your existing collars to the new home's control panel. If the previous homeowner left old collars behind, do not use them on your dog. A collar must be custom-configured to match your specific pet's size, temperament, and correction sensitivity.
Step 3: Schedule a "New Yard" Training Refresh
Do not assume your dog will automatically respect the boundaries of a new yard, even if they were perfectly boundary-trained at your old house. Dogs are highly situational learners. In a new yard, the visual cues including trees, fences, landscaping have changed.
For Dogs New to the System: We will introduce them to the boundary using our certified Perfect Start Plus™ Training program, designed by animal behaviorists for maximum efficacy and pet understanding.
For Experienced Dogs: A trainer will help you place temporary boundary flags and walk your dog through a brief refresher course.
Ready for a Seamless Transition?
A pre-installed Invisible Fence® Brand system is a massive perk for your new home, now let's make sure it's working perfectly for your unique pet.
Pro Tip: Try to schedule your system check before or during your first week of moving in, so your dog can enjoy total freedom from day one.
Contact your local Invisible Fence® Brand dealer today to schedule your system evaluation and get your pets safely situated in their new yard.
