Your pet's Computer Collar® Receiver is the most important piece of the Invisible Fence® Brand system.

If it isn't working correctly, your pet's boundary may not be active, which is important to address promptly. Here's what to look for and what to check if you suspect something isn't right.

Watch for the Red Blinking Light

The first and most obvious sign that something may be wrong with your collar is a red blinking light on the Computer Collar® Receiver. This typically indicates that the Power Cap® Battery is running low and needs to be replaced. A weak battery is the most common reason a collar stops responding correctly at the boundary.

Test the Collar at the Boundary

One of the simplest ways to check whether your collar is responding is to walk it through the boundary zone yourself. Hold the collar at the same height as your pet's neck.

  • If you hold it at waist level and you have a small or medium dog, you may be above the signal field and won't detect a response.
  • Walk toward and through the boundary area.
    • A functioning collar should emit an audible warning tone as it enters the signal field.

If you have a Boundary Plus® system, keep in mind that the correction does not occur until the collar crosses fully past the boundary wire.

Check the Battery First

If the collar isn't responding at the boundary, replace the Power Cap® Battery before drawing any other conclusions.

Invisible Fence® Brand recommends replacing the battery every three months regardless of whether an issue has arisen. Always use a genuine Invisible Fence® Brand Power Cap® Battery, as third-party batteries may not fit correctly and can allow moisture into the unit.

Check the Collar Fit

A collar that isn't properly fitted to your pet's neck may not make consistent contact with your dog's skin, which can affect how the system communicates with your pet.

The collar should be snug enough to fit only one finger between the correction post and your pet's skin. Check the fit regularly, especially as seasons change and your dog's coat thickness varies.

When To Call for Help

If you've replaced the battery, tested the collar at the boundary, and confirmed the fit, but the unit still isn't responding as expected, it's time to contact a professional. There may be a wire break, a signal issue, or a problem with the collar unit itself that requires a certified technician to diagnose.

Contact your local Invisible Fence® Brand dealer to schedule a service appointment. Our technicians will perform a full system analysis and get everything working correctly.
