Your Invisible Fence® Brand Control Panel (also called the transmitter) is the engine of your entire pet containment system. When operating normally, it runs silently. When the system detects a problem, it communicates through specific beeping patterns.
This guide explains what the beeping means, how to safely power down the unit to stop the noise, and what steps to take next.
Important: With the system powered off, your pet's boundary is no longer active. Keep pets indoors or leashed outside until the issue is fully resolved.
Understanding What Your Transmitter Is Telling You
Before powering down the unit, note the beeping pattern. This information helps your technician diagnose the problem faster.
Fast beep every second with a red indicator light:
- Wire break somewhere along the boundary loop
- Damaged or defective Control Panel
- Damaged or defective Surge Protector
- Boundary wire pulled loose from the Surge Protector or Control Panel
A wire break means your pet's boundary is not active, even if your pet has not tested it. Do not allow pets outside unattended until the system is repaired.
A slow chirp every 5 seconds with a red indicator light:
- System is running on Battery Backup power
- Possibly a defective Battery Backup (expected lifespan: up to 5 years)
How to Power Down Your Control Panel and Stop the Beeping
Follow these steps in order. If beeping stops after Step 3, you do not need to proceed to Step 4.
Step 1: Locate your Control Panel. It is typically installed in the garage, basement, or utility room.
Step 2: Note the beeping pattern before unplugging. This information will be valuable when you call for service.
Step 3: Unplug the main power cord from the wall outlet. Locate the power cord on the bottom or side of the Control Panel, running from the unit to a wall outlet.
- Follow the cord from the Control Panel to the outlet.
- Firmly pull the plug from the wall outlet.
📝 Note: This removes primary power. If your system has a Battery Backup, the unit may continue beeping. Proceed to Step 4 if beeping persists.
Step 4: (If beeping continues) Disconnect the Battery Backup.
Locate the Battery Backup unit:
- It is typically found inside the Control Panel enclosure or in a small compartment attached to it.
- On some models, it may be a separate small box mounted adjacent to the Control Panel.
- Look for a small battery pack (often black) with two wires, typically red and black, connecting to the unit.
To disconnect:
- Open the Control Panel cover, if applicable.
- Locate the battery pack and its connector.
- Gently disconnect the battery connector from the panel.
Once both the main power cord and Battery Backup are disconnected, the beeping will stop completely.
Step 5: Keep your pet safe and call for service. Contact your local Invisible Fence® Brand dealer to schedule a service appointment as soon as possible at 1-800-578-3647.
What Happens at a Service Appointment
Transmitter issues are best diagnosed and resolved by a certified Invisible Fence® Brand technician. At your appointment, the technician will:
- Perform a complete system analysis
- Test the Control Panel, Surge Protector, Computer Collar® Receiver, and boundary wire
- Identify the root cause of the beeping
- Complete any necessary repairs
- Confirm the system is fully operational before your pet goes back outside unsupervised
Don't Wait to Address a Beeping Transmitter
It may be tempting to delay a repair, especially if your pet appears to be staying in the yard. However, a wire break or power failure means your pet's boundary is not active, regardless of your pet's behavior. Acting quickly is the most reliable way to keep your pet safe.
