Are Invisible Fence® Brand Collars Waterproof?

If your dog loves splashing in puddles, swimming in the lake, or just being outside in rainy weather, you're probably wondering whether their Invisible Fence® Brand collar can handle it. The short answer is yes, and here's what you need to know.

The Computer Collar® Receiver Is Waterproof

With a genuine Invisible Fence® Brand Power Cap® Battery properly in place, the Computer Collar® Receiver is completely waterproof. It has an IP67 rating, meaning it can be safely submerged in water up to 3 feet (1 meter) for up to 30 minutes. Your dog can swim, play in the rain, or wade through puddles without compromising the collar's technology.

This waterproof protection applies to the standard Computer Collar® Receiver, the GPS collar, and the GPS Flex™ Fence. Our collars are purpose-built for active dogs who love outdoor, wet conditions.

What About the Collar Strap?

While the Computer Collar® Receiver unit itself is waterproof, woven nylon collar straps are a different story. If a woven nylon strap becomes wet, Invisible Fence® Brand recommends removing it from your pet and allowing it to air-dry completely before putting it back on.

A wet strap left against your dog's skin for extended periods can cause irritation. This is especially important to keep in mind during warm, wet weather, after swimming, or after a rainy walk.

Check the Fit Regularly

Regardless of wet or dry conditions, it's important to check the fit of your dog's collar regularly, ideally every day. The collar should be snug enough that you can fit only one finger between the correction post and your pet's skin. A collar that is too loose won't function properly, and one that is too tight can cause irritation.

Fit can change over time as your dog's coat changes with the seasons, as they grow, or as their weight shifts. Make it a habit to check the collar whenever you put it on your dog.

Keep the Battery in Place

It's worth emphasizing that the waterproof rating only applies when a genuine Power Cap® Battery is properly installed. The battery creates the essential gasket seal that protects the internal electronics.

Without a battery, or with an improperly installed or third-party battery, water can leak inside and permanently damage the unit. This is why using genuine Invisible Fence® Brand batteries and replacing them on schedule is so critical.
