Connecting the Cues:
Your pet learns the relationship between the flags that they see and smell, the tone that they hear, and the tickle that they feel. (The tone may be turned off depending on your pet’s past experiences.)
Finding the Boundary:
Your pet practices locating the edge of the signal field-understanding where it activates and where it does not.
Gaining Control:
Your pet learns that their choices matter. By responding to the cues, they can turn the tone and correction on or off, giving them control over what they feel.

1. Get Set Up
When you’re home, make sure your pet is wearing their collar, the flags are up, and the Indoor Shields® Plus is turned on in the area you and your Trainer set up together.
2. Let your Pet Make Choices
Allow your pet to move freely near the signal field and learn how it works.
3. Praise Good Decisions
Anytime your pet goes around the signal field or turns back on their own, offer praise to reinforce that behavior.

It’s completely normal if your pet isn’t avoiding yet. In fact, we want them to explore and engage with the training station as often as they choose. The more interactions mean the faster their future learning will be.
It’s common for your pet to scratch at the collar or shake their head when they feel the sensation.
If the tone was turned off during the first lesson, there’s no need to worry. Your pet still has clear guidance through the visual markers -like flags or painter’s tape- and their strong sense of smell helps them reliably identify their designated training station from other areas in the home. These cues work together to keep their learning on track as they continue progressing.

Important Rules to Follow for Your Pet’s Success and Safety:
Never Pull or Call Your Pet into the Signal Field:
We don’t want your pet associating you with the correction. They should always have trust in you and agency to choose their level of interaction.
Collar Fit, Consistent Wear and Removal:
Proper collar fit is essential for your pet’s safety. The collar should sit high on the neck and must be removed at night, when your pet is crated, and anytime your pet leaves the property. Talk with your trainer to create a collar routine that works best for your family.
The Exit Ritual:
During training, always carry or drive your pet off the property. Do not walk your pet across the boundary at this stage. Your trainer will guide a future lesson on when, and how, to begin walking across the boundary once ready.
