  • Is it safe?
    Yes, an Invisible Fence® Brand system is safe and humane. It is highly recommended by veterinarians, professional dog trainers, behaviorists and other pet experts.
  • Will it work on my pet? Big, little, young and old?
    Yes! Dogs and cats of all sizes, breeds, ages, and temperaments have successfully been trained on the Invisible Fence® Brand system. Our featherweight MicroLite Computer Collar® Receiver is the smallest and most advanced collar available. Weighing in at just one ounce, it’s easily worn by even the smallest dog breeds, including Yorkshire Terriers, Pekingese, Dachshunds, Chihuahuas and Pomeranians, as well as cats.
  • How does an Invisible Fence® Brand system work outdoors?
    Very simply, a wire is installed around the perimeter of your property, establishing your pet's Invisible Boundary®. A transmitter, usually placed in your basement or garage, sends a radio signal along the wire. The radio signal is picked up by your pet's Computer Collar® Receiver, which emits a warning sound when your pet approaches the Invisible Boundary®. Proper training is critical to ensure that your pet understands and stays within the established boundaries. During the training process, your professional Pet Trainer will introduce the customized static correction to your pet which reinforces the boundaries of your property and tells your pet clearly where they can and cannot go.   • Will it hurt my pet? What does the static correction feel like?
    No. The correction from a Computer Collar® Receiver may be uncomfortable and startling to your pet, but it will not hurt them. Many pets only feel the correction once or twice and don't challenge the system afterwards. It is important to note that we have thousands of different customizable corrections and the correction used is based on the personality of your pet, not the size or breed. The correction from a Computer Collar® Receiver is similar to the sensation you feel when you run your hand across a TV screen or when you walk across a carpet and touch a metal doorknob. The sensation momentarily surprises you and gets your attention.
  • Does the Invisible Fence® Brand system work for cats?
    Yes! Cats can be successfully trained to use the Invisible Fence® Brand system, both outdoors and indoors. Our featherweight MicroLite® Computer Collar® Receiver is the smallest and most advanced collar available. Weighing in at just one ounce, it’s easily worn by cats.
  • How big is the Computer Collar® Receiver?
    Our MicroLite® Computer Collar® unit is so small it weighs ONLY 1 ounce! Measurements are approximately 1.75" wide x 1" tall x 1" deep.

  • Can an Invisible Fence® Brand system be used with a pregnant or nursing dog/cat?
    Yes, your Invisible Fence® Brand solution is completely safe to use with pregnant and nursing pets. In more than 40 years we have found no evidence that suggests an Invisible Fence® Brand system produces detrimental effects for a pregnant pet. We have had veterinary reports of many pregnant pets, pets in season, and pets conceiving while on the Invisible Fence® Brand system. In the best interest of the pet, we will always advise that each owner check with their veterinarian if they have concerns regarding containment.

  • Can I have more than one dog/cat on my Invisible Fence® Brand system?

    Yes! You can place multiple pets on the same Invisible Fence® Brand system. However, each pet needs to wear their own customized Computer Collar® and be trained separately since each pet is an individual with different personalities and temperaments. Our Professional Pet Trainers will work with you and your pets to be sure all pets are trained successfully.

  • Can I take my Invisible Fence® Brand system with me when I move?

  • Is there a guarantee or warranty?

    The most important difference is our international network of Invisible Fence® Brand dealers who will customize and install a solution that best meets your needs and will safely and effectively train your pet. Your local professional will also be able to answer your questions and help with any additional needs you may have. You just won’t get this level of service and support with a system sold in a store. It is not uncommon for some people to have failures from low grade, store-bought equipment or to have behavior problems from improper training or correction levels.
  • Where can I get a sign for my yard?
    Your local dealer can give you a sign for your yard for free to let your neighbors know your pets are protected by an Invisible Fence Brand system. If they didn't provide one or you need a new one, contact our corporate office to request one.

  • Where can I purchase batteries for my Invisible Fence® Brand Computer Collar®?
    Power Cap® Batteries for your Invisible Fence® Brand Computer Collar® receiver can be purchased through our online store or by calling 866-804-1250.   • Why have I heard of pets that get out of their yard or run through the "Invisible Fence?"

    Invisible Fence® Brand has a 99.5% success rate because of our superior products and professional training. So most likely someone is generically using the term "Invisible Fence" when actually referring to another brand of pet containment. Some brands, especially store-bought systems, do not come with professional training which can lead to a higher rate of pets getting through the system. Invisible Fence® Brand is the original innovator with professional, customized training and more than 40 years of experience!

    The rare incidence of a pet crossing through an actual Invisible Fence® Boundary can usually be attributed to one of three factors:

    1. Drained batteries. Drained batteries are easily preventable by ensuring the Power Cap® battery is changed every 3 months.
    2. Pets not wearing the Computer Collar® unit. The Computer Collar® unit should be worn every time the pet is outdoors.
    3. Wire breaks. Wire breaks are rare but can occur when homeowners are digging near the wire with a shovel, irrigating their lawn, etc. Should a wire break occur we recommend contacting us immediately to have the wire fixed. In the meantime, the pet should be kept safe by using another method of containment.

     

Training questions.

  • Can I take my dog for a walk now that he is trained to the Invisible Fence® Brand system?

    We encourage families to wait until their pets are successfully contained for 2-3 weeks before starting the exit ritual. Following this ritual will make learning to leave for a walk a very easy process for both the pet and the family. If you are unable to wait until the dog is ready for the exit ritual, be sure to talk with your trainer to determine the best alternative.

    1. Pick a word to give the dog permission to cross the line.
      • Words like ‘gate’, ‘bridge’, ‘shazam’, etc.
      • Avoid words like “ok” as it comes up in normal conversation too often.
      • The word you pick should be used just for crossing the fence line.
    2. Pick a spot to leave the yard. One consistent spot is best.
    3. Quietly take the dog’s Computer Collar® unit off in the house. Then, make a big fuss about putting on his walking gear.
      • The focus is on getting the walking gear, not taking off the Computer Collar® unit.
    4. Walk out to “the spot” and have the dog sit at the edge of his comfort zone.  Make a big deal about moving the flag out of the way. Set it down somewhere away from the exit point.  This “opens” the gate.
    5. Using the exit word, have the dog cross the fence line and go for a walk.
    6. When you return, confidently walk back into the yard and have the dog stop inside the fence line. Make a big deal about replacing the flag. This “closes” the gate.
    7. Always return to the house to take off walking gear and quietly put the Computer Collar® unit back on.
    8. Over time, the last flag to go away is the GATE Flag.
    9. Eventually just the Open and Close motion signals to the dog when he can leave the yard and when the gate is closed. Remember dogs are very aware of body language and the “open” and “close” motion can be very powerful.
  • Can other animals besides dogs and cats be trained to the Invisible Fence® Brand system?
    The Invisible Fence® Brand Pet Containment system is recommended for dogs and cats, but has been used on other animals such as goats, sheep, donkeys, cows, and pigs – animals that react favorably to conditioning. However, Invisible Fence® Brand products are intended for domestic dogs and cats, and we have only developed training protocols for these pets.
  • What does the correction feel like?
    The correction from a Computer Collar® receiver is similar to the sensation you feel when you run your hand across a TV screen or when you walk across a carpet and touch a metal doorknob. The sensation momentarily surprises you and gets your attention.

Computer Collar® Receiver questions.

  • How can I properly change the nylon strap?
    When changing the nylon strap that your Computer Collar® unit attaches to, it is important to use the right tool. Any time you need to remove the computer portion, a 5/16 nut driver should be used. This tool is made to fit correctly over the posts for safe removal and tightening. To remove/unscrew the posts, turn them counterclockwise. To replace the posts, turn them clockwise. Tighten the posts only until you feel resistance to avoid over tightening and damage.
  • How tight should my pet’s Computer Collar® unit be around their neck?
    The collar should be snug enough to slide only one finger between a correction post and your pet’s skin. Remember to adjust the fit of the collar as your pet’s coat, weight, and age change. Your pet’s coat may change from season to season.
  • Is the Invisible Fence® Brand Computer Collar® unit waterproof?
    Yes, with an Invisible Fence® Brand Power Cap® battery in place, the Computer Collar® unit is waterproof and can be submersed in water up to 10 feet. If the nylon collar strap becomes wet, it is recommended that it be removed from your pet and be allowed to air dry before replacing the collar on your pet’s neck.
  • What is the size of the Computer Collar® unit?
    Our MicroLite® Computer Collar® unit is so small it weighs ONLY 1 ounce! Measurements are approximately 1.75" wide x 1" tall x 1" deep.
  • Why should I check my dog's/cat’s neck and remove the Computer Collar® periodically?
    It is very important to evaluate or remove the collar nightly. Because pets grow and change in size, it is important that you take the time to remove, check or adjust the collar. Check the fit of your pet’s collar to make sure that it fits snugly, but not too tightly, and is not causing any irritation. The best way to test the fit of the collar: you should be able to fit one finger between the correction post and the skin on your pet’s neck. Neck irritation may develop if the collar is too tight, but is most likely to take place (1) during warm, wet weather conditions (2) with thick-coated dogs (3) during shedding season or (4) any time the Computer Collar® unit is left on for long periods of time. Failure to check ANY collar will result in skin irritation or pressure necrosis. These are not burns (since Invisible Fence® Brand uses static correction) but instead the result of not checking the fit of the collar.

  • Are Invisible Fence® Brand products compliant?
    • RoHS - All Invisible Fence® Brand products comply with RoHS 2 directives.
    • CE - All Invisible Fence® Brand products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA) are CE compliant and bare the CE mark.
    • FCC - All Invisible Fence® Brand products required to conform to FCC rules are tested and certified at an independent testing facility. All product models are marked with a unique FCC ID number.
    • IC - All invisible Fence® Brand products sold within Canada and required to conform to Industry Canada rules are tested and certified at an independent testing facility. All product models are marked with a unique IC number.
  • Can I adjust my pet’s correction at the control panel?
    No. The correction level on your pet’s collar can only be changed by a trainer or technician in the field or at the counter of your local dealer. The computer collar is set based on your pet’s personality as assessed by our certified trainers. Our professional trainers make all changes to the collar to ensure your pet gets just the right amount of correction. If your pet’s collar correction level is set too high, this could lead to your pet becoming afraid of your yard and contribute to bad behaviors.
  • How long does the wire last?
    Invisible Fence® Brand boundary wire is a direct burial grade wire and has a life expectancy of 27 years left undisturbed in the ground.
  • How much power does the Invisible Fence® Brand outdoor system use?
    Similar to a 5-watt night light, about $10 per year.
  • Will a power failure affect the Invisible Fence® Brand system?
    When the power is out, your Invisible Fence® Brand system will continue to operate with the optional battery back-up. If the power outage lasts an hour or more, consider alternate methods of containment.
  • Will the Invisible Fence® Brand system create any interference in my home?
    No. Invisible Fence® Brand solutions are backed by more than 40 years of technological development. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations state we cannot, and do not create distortion on other communication systems ie: cable, satellite, high speed internet, DSL, cellular phones, GPS, etc.

Troubleshooting questions.

  • Why is my collar blinking red?
    If you have started to see a red flashing light on your pet’s Computer Collar® unit, your Power Cap® battery may need to be replaced. You can order replacement batteries online, from your local dealer, or by calling 1-800-824-3647.
  • Why is my control panel beeping?

    If your control panel is beeping every second, the most likely issue is that you have a wire break somewhere on your property. These can be caused by digging too deep when working in the yard, burrowing animals, and even the weather. The most important thing to know is that your fence will NOT contain your pets when there is a wire break, so you should not let your pets outside until the issue is resolved.     If your control panel is beeping with a lengthy pause between each beep, it’s possible your backup battery unit needs to be replaced. Your fence will still work, but if your power goes out, the system will no longer be operational until power is restored. You can purchase replacements through your local dealer by calling 866-804-1250.

  • Can I take my Invisible Fence® Brand system with me when I move?
    Yes! Bring your Invisible Fence® Brand transmitter and Computer Collar® receiver with you to your new home and contact us at 866-804-1250 to install new boundary wire, flag your property and re-train your pet(s) to their new boundaries.

  • How can I fix a wire break?

  • How do we add a new pet to our existing Invisible Fence® Brand system?
    Contact us at 866-804-1250 to purchase another Computer Collar® unit and a Power Cap® battery plan. We will also assist you in scheduling a professional trainer to come to your home, work with your new pet, and re-flag your property.

  • I just purchased a new house that already has an Invisible Fence® Brand system installed. How do I make sure the system is functioning properly?
    Give us a call at 866-804-1250 to request a service appointment and we’ll perform a system check to ensure all components are operating properly. We can also mark the boundary and assist you in training your pet(s) to the system.
  • My pet’s Computer Collar® doesn’t activate at the Invisible Fence® Brand boundary, what’s wrong?

    Ensure that your pet’s Computer Collar® receiver is fitted properly to his neck. The collar should be snug enough to slide only one finger between a correction post and your pet’s skin. Remember to adjust the fit of the collar as your pet’s coat, weight, and age change. Your pet’s coat may change from season to season.

    Make sure you’re testing the collar at the same height level as your pet. If you’re holding the collar at your waist and you have a small dog or cat, you may not hear the tone or feel the correction because you’re above the signal field. If you have a Boundary Plus® system, you’ll also want to make sure you walk through the boundary, as the correction does not occur until your pet leaves the yard.

    Check your Power Cap® battery. We recommend changing the battery every 3 months. Using a fresh, genuine Invisible Fence® Brand Power Cap® battery is the safest, easiest and most reliable way to guarantee your pet’s safety 100% of the time.   • Our previous pet passed away. Can we use the same Computer Collar® on a new pet?
    Yes, however the Computer Collar® receiver should be re-programmed by one of our Professional Pet Trainers so that the correction level is just right (not too high or too low) for your new pet. We also recommend scheduling a training session(s) to teach your new pet the boundaries of their Invisible Fence® Brand system.   • The transmitter in my garage (or basement) is beeping, what’s wrong?
