Invisible Fence® Brand Tips

Can my Invisible Fence® Brand Computer Collar® get wet?
Be sure to remove your pet's Invisible Fence® Brand Computer Collar® occasionally after he's been swimming or bathed. It'll help keep his neck dry and comfortable and prolong the life of the collar's material. The Invisible Fence® Brand Computer Collar® is water-resistant not waterproof. In particularly humid climates or when the dog has access to creeks, pools, streams etc., water may get trapped in the Power Cap® battery compartment. The Power Cap contains a small o-ring that helps minimize water intrusion, but if you think the battery compartment is getting wet, take the Power Cap out. When the Power Cap and its compartment are dry, place the Power Cap back in the Computer Collar. Remember, put the Computer Collar back on the dog before he goes outside.

Do you know where your Invisible Fence® Brand boundary wire is?
As you plan your springtime projects or need to mark the location of your underground wire for landscaping, utility work or other digging, your local Invisible Fence® Brand dealer can help. The wire, which is typically buried several inches deep, can still be cut by a wayward shovel or spike. Your local Invisible Fence® Brand professional can quickly and easily mark your yard with flag markers to avoid any breaks in system integrity.

How does Winter affect my Invisible Fence® Brand solution?
With winter approaching, please take time to check the fit of your dog's Invisible Fence® Brand Computer Collar.® Most dogs (and some people too) put on a few extra pounds in the winter months. Some dogs will also grow a thicker coat to prepare them for the colder temperatures. Both of these can make the Computer Collar too tight and possibly cause your dog's neck to become irritated. To check the fit of your dog's collar, you should be able to fit one finger between one of the collar's posts and your pet's skin. If one finger won't fit, the collar is too tight. If you can fit more than one finger, the collar is too loose.

What about snow piles?
Snow piles from shoveling sidewalks or driveways may impact the performance of your Invisible Fence. To maintain optimal performance of your Invisible Fence, we recommend that you not pile the snow on your Invisible Fence boundary line. This can create an exit path for your dog if the snow is piled higher than your Invisible Fence signal field. In most cases your Invisible Fence® Brand system is set to activate at least six to eight feet from the line — both width and height. If the snow pile is higher than the signal field set, you may have to shovel off some of that snow to keep your dog Safe @ Home!

Testing your Invisible Fence® Brand Brand Solution
We recommend that you periodically test your Invisible Fence in good weather and bad. Check the system by holding your dog's Computer Collar® by the buckle and walking up to the boundary wire and listening for the audible tone. Be sure to hold the collar similar to how the dog would be wearing it, usually at knee level is close enough.

Check your pet's comfort with the Invisible Fence® Brand Brand Computer Collar® Brand
Frequently check the fit of your dog's Computer Collar® Brand. You should be able to fit your finger between your dog's neck and one of the Computer Collar posts. The Computer Collar should be snug and as high up on your dog's neck as possible. Remove your dog's Computer Collar regularly. Neck irritation can develop at any time, but is most likely to take place during warm weather, with thick-coated dogs, during shedding season and any time the Computer Collar is left on for long periods of time.

When is my puppy ready for Invisible Fence® Brand?
There are several things to consider when training a new dog to the Invisible Fence® Brand system.
1. Your puppy should be at least 8 weeks old.
2. A puppy should be able to perform basic training commands such as sit, stay and come, before introducing him to the Invisible Fence. These simple training exercises will help condition your pup to training in general before introducing your dog to the Invisible Fence system.

What if I plan to move?
If you're planning to move into a new home, don't forget your Invisible Fence® Brand system. You can take the transmitter and Computer Collar® with you. Contact your new local Invisible Fence professional about laying new boundary wire, flagging your dog's new boundaries and training him to them. You can find your new Invisible Fence professional by entering your postal zip code into the dealer locator.

How often should I change Power Cap® batteries?
In order for your Invisible Fence® Brand system to work properly, the Power Cap® battery in the Computer Collar® should be changed regularly. Battery life can be drained by several factors, including low temperatures, the number of times a dog challenges the system, and the fit of the collar on the dog's neck. On average, your Power Cap should be changed every three months. You can sign up for a battery plan through your local Invisible Fence professional.
