"Pets are a big part of everyone's lives these days and so not only do we save people with ambulance, first responders, and fire departments, but we want to save the pets also," says Vanessa Jewitt with EMSTAR.
Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) When Emergency Responders are called to a scene they have all of the supplies necessary to save people's lives, but what happens to the four-legged family members?
Up to 150,000 animals die each year in fires, and much of the cause is smoke inhalation.
As a result, Invisible Fence donated an animal oxygen kit to Chenango Ambulance Services.
The ambulance service is the first in Broome County to receive a kit.
The kit comes with three different sized masks, fitting small to large breed animals.
Since first responders and emergency crews already have CPR training, it's a matter of altering that training for animals.
Those slight alterations include the animals position and the size of the mask used.
