Even before the advent of the wireless indoor systems, I have been a big fan of Invisible Fence^® Brand for Cats. Cats really seem to understand the concept of the tone/correction quickly. I found that my own cats were trained in a matter of 5 to 10 minutes. My own personal system allows some of my cats to go outside and keeps others completely inside. In my house we also have an indoor unit in the upstairs walk-in closet. It allows the cats to access the litter box, but keeps the dogs out so they don't litter surf.
