Erie Firefighter adopts cat burned in fire

After the Browns were removed from the apartment, firefighters were doing a secondary search when firefighter Daniel Tufts spotted a cat, barely alive. He, along with firefighter Adam Gatti, grabbed a special Pet Oxygen Kit that contains special masks for animals.

It was back on January 8th that fire ripped through a Westside apartment claiming the lives of Ron and Cindy Brown. But out of a story of tragedy comes a bit of good news.

After the Browns were removed from the apartment, firefighters were doing a secondary search when firefighter Daniel Tufts spotted a cat, barely alive. He, along with firefighter Adam Gatti, grabbed a special Pet Oxygen Kit that contains special masks for animals. The masks are made for the animal's snouts to fit snug.

Gatti and Tufts worked on the animal for nearly a half hour until the cat came around. Badly burned and injured, the cat was taken to Wintergreen Animal Hospital where it is still undergoing treatment.

But the good news is Gatti decided to adopt the cat he has named Cinder. He's grateful for all the help Wintergreen Animal Hospital has given and is happy he was able to use the special masks provided for the animals.

Those Pet Oxygen Kits were donated by Patty Sopp who owns Invisible Fence. Through a program called "Project Breathe" Sopp has donated more than 70 of these kits so every fire truck in the city of Erie, and several departments in Erie County are now equipped with these kits.
